One of the great things about visiting Universal Orlando is that you have countless dining options at your disposal.  Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville at Universal CityWalk is one such option.  Universal CityWalk, located in between Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure is a 30 acre entertainment complex featuring restaurants, quick service food options, miniature golf, and live shows such as Blue Man Group.  This Universal Orlando mainstay is appropriately nicknamed the "Entrtainment Capital of Orlando".

During our recent VIP tour of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, we ate dinner at Margaritaville. Whether or not you are a Jimmy Buffett fan, Margaritaville is a must-try when coming to Universal Orlando.  Featuring both live and taped entertainment, you will not be bored while dining at Margaritaville!  Favorite Jimmy Buffett videos play non-stop on the big screens throughout the restaurant while live entertainers walk around keeping Guests entertained.  During our meal at Margaritaville, multiple cast members on stilts came out and mingled with diners, produced balloon animals for the kids and DANCED(that's right) whenever the Margaritaville video played on the big screen!

Like the Margaritaville number, there is also a number inspired by the song "Volcano".  During this song, a large volcano erupts, yes erupts, at the Volcano Bar and you guessed it, shoots out Margaritas into a large Margarita glass! Seeing this alone is worth coming in for a meal!  In addition to the taped music, Margaritaville at Universal CityWalk also features nightly live music.  The fun truly never ends!

Like the entertainment, the Margaritaville menu also is inspired by Jimmy Buffett's music.  The cuisine is a delicious combination of Key West and Caribbean delicacies and the decor of the restaurant was designed to match.  There are so many menu options to choose from: jerk chicken, Bayou shrimp pasta, Calypso Mahi Mahi, Corn and Crab Chowder and Key Lime Pie to name a few.  Of course, don't forget the signature Margaritas and other drinks too!

Margaritaville at Universal CityWalk is very reasonably priced and participates in the Universal Orlando Movie and Meal Deal plan.  This is a great way to end a busy day at Universal Orlando!

HPEF’s (Harry Potter Education Fanon) eighth event, Ascendio, is a Harry Potter symposium open to all Harry Potter scholars and fans. Programming for Ascendio is geared towards an adult audience, and features presentations, music, and arts and crafts, as well as meet-ups, social events and general tomfoolery. HPEF’s other events have included Nimbus 2003 (Orlando), The Witching Hour(2005, Salem), Lumos (2006, Las Vegas), Prophecy (2007, Toronto), Portus (2008, Dallas), Azkatraz (2009, San Francisco) and Infinitus (2010, Universal Orlando Resort).

Ascendio will be held at the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Orlando® in Orlando, Florida from July 12 through July 15, 2012.  Although all conference activities will occur outside the parks (so, you're not required to purchase any theme park tickets), you are at Universal Orlando and can walk to Islands of Adventure to visit the Harry Potter park from the event venue.  Additionally, if you decide to book a room with the Portofino Bay Hotel, you will get Universal's Express Pass with your stay! 

Anyone over age 13 can register for Ascendio, but those between the ages of 13 and 17 (as of July 12, 2012) must be accompanied by a parent, a legal guardian or a chaperone who is (a) over the age of 21 and (b) appointed by the parent or legal guardian pursuant to our Parental Permission Form, which will be available on the site by April 15, 2012. The parent, guardian or chaperone must have at least a day registration for each day the relevant minor has any type of registration.  Like past HPEF conferences, programming for Ascendio is a geared towards an adult audience, and parents should be advised that some programming may contain mature themes and language.

On Saturday night, all Ascendio registrants are invited to attend the “After-Party at Malfoy Manor Or Possibly Beauxbatons” To The Manor Ball . There is no additional ticket required to attend the Ball for those with Merlin’s Circle, Full or any Day-Pass registration.

There are many new reasons to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Universal Orlando Resort in 2012!  One of the newest attractions to open at the Universal Studios park will be the nightime show, Cinematic Spectacular: 100 Years of Movie Memories.  What a great way to cap off an already exciting day at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter!  This lagoon show will feature fireworks, colorful dancing fountains and themed movie clips celebrating the past 100 years of movie history from Universal Pictures.  

How many of your favorite films will be featured?  

Right now, the Cinematic Spectacular: 100 Years of Movie Memories is scheduled to open nightly to Universal Orlando Resort Guests on May 8 with special sneak previews going on right now!!  

If you are visiting the Universal Orlando Resort prior to May 8, 2012 be sure to ask either your Universal Orlando Resort Hotel Concierge or Guest Services at either Universal Studios or Islands of Adventure for a preview schedule. Or check the Park Hours for the day you'd like to visit. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter park forms an extremely popular part of the Island of Adventure theme park at Universal Orlando.  Many think it requires a separate admission ticket or that it's a theme park entirely unto it's own.  Neither is the case.  The Harry Potter park can be seen, visited, and experience as part of your normal admission to the Islands of Adventure theme park.

In this post, we'll provide a brief video tour of the island, including the many rides and shops within Hogsmeade Village.  Opening in June of 2010, Universal Orlando has experienced great success with the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, even sparking an additional Harry Potter park at Universal Studios Hollywood and rumored expansion of the Orlando Harry Potter park into Universal Studios at the former location of Jaws.  

The area's flagship attraction is Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride which exists within a re-creation of Hogwarts Castle. It takes riders on a journey through Harry Potter's wizarding world with a simulated ride aboard a broomstick with Harry, Hermione, and Ron Weasley.

Other attractions include Dragon Challenge, a pair of inverted roller coasters, and Flight of the Hippogriff, a family roller coaster.

Other than the main rides, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is also home to gift shops, restaurants and other tourist attractions. Several of these are re-creations of locations in the Harry Potter books while others have been created specifically for the park.

A re-creation of the Hogwarts Express lies at the entry to Hogsmeade. The re-creation features "billowing steam and an iconic whistle" and is accompanied by the conductor of the train. In the Potter series the Hogwarts Express is the train used to transport students from London to Hogwarts.

The Owl Post is a working post office (where postcards and letters will be delivered with an authentic Hogsmeade postmark) that also sells stationery, writing implements, stamps, and owl-related gifts.

The Three Broomsticks, based on the inn and pub from the Harry Potter books, offers a variety of food and beverage items from the Harry Potter universe including butterbeer, pumpkin juice, strawberry-peanut butter ice cream (as seen in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets), chocolate cauldron cakes in addition to a menu composed of traditional British fare (Shepherd's pie, fish and chips, etc.). The pub features many hidden references to the book, namely house elves and ghosts that roam the rafters.

Butterbeer, which can be purchased with a souvenir mug, is offered as a non-alcoholic beverage and comes in both regular and frozen forms, found at the beginning of Hogsmeade fresh off the tap from the butterbeer cart.  To me, it tastes like a sweeter version of cream soda.

Similarly, The Hog's Head is based on the pub from the Potter series owned by Aberforth Dumbledore.

Honeydukes is a sweet shop, based on Honeydukes Sweetshop in the Harry Potter books. The shop sells many items from the Harry Potter universe including Chocolate Frogs, Acid Pops, exploding bonbons, Cauldron Cakes, treacle fudge, Fizzing Whizzbees, Pepper Imps, and Bertie Bott’s Every-Flavour Beans.

The third shop is Filch's Emporium of Confiscated Goods. It is a general gift shop (named for Hogwarts caretaker Argus Filch) offering Hogwarts souvenirs (such as clothing and stationery), replicas of props from the Harry Potter films, and other toys and souvenirs. The shop is at the exit to Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey and is where guests can obtain photos of their ride experience.

In the book series, Ollivanders wand shop is located in Diagon Alley, not Hogsmeade; however, the attraction re-created the shop as Ollivanders, portraying it as a branch of the original where Harry purchases his wand in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (known in the United States as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone). Unlike other shops in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, visitors are admitted in groups of 20 to experience the premise from the Potter series, that "the wand chooses the wizard". Similar to the first film, the wand keeper and a selected guest test a variety of wands until the right one is found. After experiencing the attraction, souvenir wands can be purchased.

Since our full-service travel agency specializes in both Disney and Universal Vacations, one of the most common questions we get is "How can I get to Universal Studios if I'm staying at a Disney Resort?" or "I'm visiting Walt Disney World but want to see Harry Potter too". Well, we have a great solution for that! We offer a Universal Orlando ticket that INCLUDES transportation from your Walt Disney World Resort. That's right--not THE Walt Disney World Resort but YOUR Walt Disney World Resort. So whether you're staying at Coronado Springs or Pop Century or the Grand Floridian, the shuttle will come right to your Resort! Then, when it gets to Universal, the shuttle will drop you off right at the entrance to CityWalk. So, the park entrances are a short walk from there.

In addition to the shuttle, the ticket also includes either a 1 Day or 2 Day Park-to-Park ticket so that you can enjoy unlimited access to both Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure while at the Universal Orlando Resort. 

The shuttle is extremely easy to schedule as well. Simply call the provided number the day before you want to visit Universal and schedule your pick-up for the next morning. Once you're at the parks and want to head back to your Disney Resort, call the provided number again about 3 hours before you want to leave and the shuttle company will provide a pick-up time.

One thing to note--it is important to have access to a printer when purchasing these tickets. So we always recommend purchasing these tickets before leaving home. If that is not an option and you're already at Disney, you will need to print out the confirmation/shuttle voucher at one of the Disney Resorts that has a business center. 

Overall, purchasing the Universal tickets that include shuttle service from your Disney Resort is a very relaxing way to travel between the 2 theme areas. And it is much more cost effective than renting a car for the day or taking a taxi. So, be sure to give this ticket a try on your next trip to the Orlando area!
